What is Church Planting Sunday?

Church Planting Sunday is a powerful opportunity to cultivate a church planting culture in your church by helping your people see the urgent need for new churches and catch a vision for what God can do through them. It’s a moment to teach why church planting matters, share inspiring stories of lives changed through new churches, and invite your church to be part of the mission. Whether your church is just starting to explore church planting, actively partnering, or preparing to plant, this Sunday can help everyone catch the vision!

Why a Church Planting Sunday?

Jesus calls us to make disciples “Here, Near, and Far” (Acts 1:8), and Carolina Movement exists to help your church reach your “Near” right here in North Carolina. New churches are still the most effective way to reach new people with the gospel. Church Planting Sunday helps build a Great Commission culture in your church, creating a clear pathway to live out the mission of Jesus together.

What Happens on a Church Planting Sunday?

Preaching the Mission

Preach a message on the urgency and strategy of church planting. Use passages like Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19–20 or Acts 19 (Ephesus). 

    • A “Here, Near & Far” sermon manuscript resource is available for your pastor or guest speaker to use as a launching point.
    • Invite a Carolina Movement church planter or staff member to speak, share a vision moment, or lead part of the service.

Planter Testimony

Invite a current or new church planter you’re partnering with to share how church planting is changing lives in their part of North Carolina. This personal story will help your church connect emotionally to the mission.

Vision Moment

Share how your church is involved (or wants to be involved) in church planting—whether through the Every County Offering, direct partnerships, or preparing to plant in the future.

  • Show the Every County video to help your church catch the vision of planting a gospel-centered church in all 100 counties of North Carolina.

Prayer & Worship

Lead your church in prayer for new churches, unreached people in NC, and a spiritual awakening across our state. Consider using a guided prayer moment or printed prayer guide.

Generosity Challenge

Invite your church to give boldly for the sake of the Gospel:

    • Toward the Every County Offering, helping launch new planting regions in North Carolina.
    • To support a specific church plant your church is already partnered with or adopting.
    • Or through your general giving, where at least 10% is given to missions, including church planting.
